What to expect, when?

The purpose of this booklet is to help you as a parent/carer find out more about how your child is learning and developing during their first five years, in relation to the EYFS. Children develop more rapidly during the first five years of their lives than at any other time. This booklet has been written to help you know what to expect during these vitally important years by focusing on the seven areas of learning and development which are covered in the EYFS.

The Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage is the time in your child’s life between birth and age 5. This is a very important stage as it helps your child get ready for school and prepares them for their future learning and successes. From when your child is born up until the age of 5, their early years experience should be happy, active, exciting, fun and secure; and support their development, care and learning needs.

At St Thomas' Pre-School we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.
